New Brunswick visit to the Lorient Chamber of Commerce and Industry

🪝 We recently hosted a delegation from New Brunswick (Canada) responsible for crab and lobster fishing. Shellfish fishing is an essential part of New Brunswick's coastal heritage, economy, and culture.

🦀 This maritime province, with a coastline that stretches from the Bay of Fundy to the Bay of Chaleur, makes it an ideal territory for lobster and crab fisheries which play a central role in local food, the export economy, and also in tourism.

🛶 Commercial lobster fishing is organized by zone (LFA — Lobster Fishing Area) along the coastline and depending on the zone, the setting of traps varies — which means that at least one LFA is open each month, ensuring a near-permanent fishery in the province.

🚤 Crab fishing has recently received support to modernize vessels. In 2023, the federal government and the province funded systems to keep crabs alive in better conditions during transport at sea: improving meat quality and reducing mortality.

🛥️ In this context, we presented our activities and expertise in ship decarbonization. This includes general design, naval hydrodynamics, propeller design, and onboard ship expertise.

🛟 Indeed, decarbonizing ships only makes sense if we take into account their uses and employment profiles. Each case requires a tailored solution, from the hull to the propulsion system and including the propellers. A comprehensive approach is essential.

🧭 This enriching exchange was also an opportunity to showcase our project management and project support skills. Our central role in the training vessel project for the Jacques de Thézac Maritime High School illustrated the importance of managing projects from start to finish in a rigorous and structured manner.

📜 As a reminder, this training vessel, designed by the Coprexma design office and built by the Chantier Bretagne Sud shipyard , incorporates hybrid propulsion, adapted to the needs of the high school and its students.
